My daughter has been diagnosed with this condition, it began about 5 years ago in small patches and is now all over her body. She finally broke down and told me about this and is asking for a treatment to help her.
I have researched it and will be making her a natural scrub using Aluminum Crystals (used for micro dermabrasion), Fractionated coconut oil and shea butter. This is supposed to help remove the excess skin around the hair follicles, Then I will work on a non pore clogging intense moisturizer.
If you have this or know someone with it (it seems to be very common) I would be very interested in learning from you and finding out what worked to treat this.
Thank you, Kathy

I regret having nothing to help you but do offer hugs for you and her and know you will find something! I know how hard it is for kids to tell you (especially when young adults) about something being wrong. My daughter and I are very close but she still doesn't always tell me how bad something really is as she doesn't want to worry me I'm sure the girls on this forum will have things to help, please let us know if you do find anythiung to help as well.

Hi Kathy, My girls and I have this. My son doesn't though. I first noticed mine in Junior High, I could have had it before but since i didn't start really worring about body stuff until Junior High I never noticed it. Mine is very mild on the backs of my upper arms and also on the backs of my thighs, in fact now my bumps are very few and far between! I don't really pay attention to mine, I just try use products with less harmful chemicals and to gently exfoliate once or twice a week but that's it, I am just pretty lucky I guess. My girls seem to have it a bit more severely than I do. Their pediatrician recommended to me to never use bubble baths or harsh soaps on them, no Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo either. I use Cetaphil cleanser in the bath, even as a shampoo. And I use Cetaphil lotion on them as well, actually I use the generic for both cause they are kinda expensive ). It is somewhat better than before, but not a whole lot. I occasionally gently exfoliate their arms and legs with a loofah intended for the face (I however would not use this on my face, seems too harsh still). Mainly I just try to keep chemicals and such away from their skin, except for sunscreen which I feel is too important to forget. I would love a recommendation from anyone for a good sunscreen lotion that doesn't include nasty parabens and such??? In the summer when we are slathered in sunscreen I notice they have more bumps than in the winter, however I don't notice a difference in my bumps with the use of sunscreen, I think it can get better with age, but not always, I'm 27 so that means I have had it for at least 14 years if not longer, my mom doesn't remember me having this since I was an infant like my girls. I am sorry to hear that your daughter has this all over, I can imagine it feels very bothersome and has an effect on self esteem as well. I truly hope together you two can make some real progress in easing her symptoms! If you come up with an awesome scrub and moisturizer, we would love to try it!

I had no idea that is what this condition is. Holli as this on her arms too. I would be interested in the products or products you create for this condition Kathy.
I am very glad your daughter confided in you. I know this can be embarrassing and now she doesn't have to go through it alone. She has her Mama and of course, all of us to support her through this.

Sorry to hear about that Kathy. I googled keratosis pilaris and found this: http://www.keratosispilaris.org/general-discussion/4335-cured-last-oil-pulling.html It seemed pretty interesting to me and thought maybe you would want to read it. The person on there says they have gotten rid of their KP by "Oil Pulling" which I found out was swishing an oil (that person used Coconut Oil) in their mouth for 20 mins. in the morning then spitting it out. Down the page someone explaines how oil pulling actually works. I have never heard of such a thing but it appears there is a science behind it... Anyways hope that helps.

That oil pulling info was weird but very facinating, I'm going to read up on it a little more. Thanks for the link Stacey. Although my girls might be too young to try it without swallowing it. It's recommended that it's done for 15 to 20 minutes, some do it longer!! Heck, I'm not sure I can do it that long

LOL No problem. I think it is weird too...and I would also think that your jaws would get very tired, but if it works, it might be worth it. I am going look more into it too because I read that it is supposed to be good for gums that bleed because mine do sometimes (not a lot), and its supposed to give you whiter teeth which is always nice.

I seemed to have something similar when I used to live in Northern Nevada, it's pretty cold there and my half-sister seems to have this as well even on her thighs, now that I'm in a tropical country it has almost diminished. I do think scrubbing will help. Virgin coconut oil has lots of wonders! We even drink 2 tablespoons of it daily, one in the morning and one at night. The more lauric acid percentage, the better, it's for all skin problems as well. Some people rub it on their scalp and hair 30 minutes before bathing, some use this as a moisturizer at night. I just read that Keratosis Pilaris is caused by really dry skin, duh! I wasn't a fan of lotions up only until now that I'm in my early 30's. You may want to only give her a body scrub once a week because it will dry out her skin more. Then use virgin coconut oil (you may not like the smell though) or a good lotion like Lubriderm. I noticed, when I was taking Olay Beauty and Wellness vitamins, my skin was really soft and moisturized. Some Vitamin E might be good.
