- Particles carry a static charge and increase the adherence and coverage properties of cosmetics with additions of the powder between 3% and 30%
- Lubricating nature of platelets aids in compaction, transfer and removal of the final cosmetic product, reducing the need for compacting additives such as stearates

Why would I include Boron Nitride Cosmetic Powder in my cosmetic or skin care formulation?
For the soft and elegant feel, increased payoff, and adherence, and optical features. This powder increases the quality of your makeup, bringing to the high end market
What makes Coastal Scents Boron Nitride Cosmetic Powders so soft and lubricious?
Boron Nitride Cosmetic Powders are the lamellar form of BN which resembles graphite. Each layer or cleavage face contains two different elements, boron and nitrogen. The B-N bond must be partly ionic, resulting in cleavage faces having positive and negative charges. This increases the surface energy and interface friction. Additionally, the surfaces of high purity crystals are free of carbon and other impurities and therefore there is no "drag" or sticky feeling.
Why is the Boron Nitride offered by Coastal Scents different then others?
Some grades of other suppliers may differ by the amount of B2O3, purity and they might not follow the global regulations on heavy metals.
These other borons will not give you the ultimate finish & quality you are trying to achieve, we have tried and tested and the results are a major difference.
What is the Refractive Index for BN?
1.74. This offers anti aging properties: protection from uvb rays.
How much powder is typically used in a formula?
That is completely up to the formulator, the application, and desired results. Our Boron Nitride Cosmetic Powder is typically added to cosmetic formulations from 3 - 10%. Skin care formulations may use up to 5%.
When would I use a treated BN powder?
Formulations such as cream to powder or two-way formulations requiring hydrophobic ingredients may benefit by using silicone treated grades.
